low tech:
Bold-Lined Paper
For students with a visual impairment, bold-lined paper will help the student stay on the lines when writing. The paper that we have in out notebooks has very, very light colored lines and even for someone who does not have a visual impairment it is still sometimes hard to see the lines. By using bold-lined paper the student is able to clearly see where the lines are at keep their writing within and on the lines on the page. It is the students responsibility to make sure they have the bold-lined paper and that when they run out they tell their teacher so that they can get more as soon as possible.
Pros: Student is able to see the lines to be able to write on them and not be all over the page.
Cons: For students with severe visual impairments the bold-lines still may not be dark enough for them to see.

high tech:
Video Magnifier
Video magnifiers are a great option when a student who is visually impaired needs greater magnification in reading print. A video magnifier provides electronic magnification through the use of a video camera that projects the image of what the camera is focused on, on a screen. The video magnifier will allow access to regular print materials with the ability to enlarge and write on worksheets. The video magnifier also provides a larger field of view and gives the student a longer working distances when higher degrees of magnification are needed which is very beneficial when reading lengthier passages. Video magnifiers have traditionally been used for near viewing, but many video magnifiers now also have distance viewing capabilities.
Pros: Students are able to have a closer look at the readings and text so that they are able to read it without issues.
Cons: The machine is big and hard to move around if needing to move to various locations in a room. Teacher would have to take time initially to show the student how it works.
